About Commercial business waste
Business waste is any waste created from commercial activity, including:
- Factories, offices, restaurants and shops
- Home-based businesses (waste from the business part of your home)
- Mobile trading units/vehicles
Your responsibility
As a business, you have a legal duty to manage your waste properly.
You must keep waste to a minimum by doing everything you reasonably can (in the following order) to:
- prevent waste where possible
- reuse materials or resources
- recycle what you can
- recover remaining waste that is produced
- sort and store waste safely and securely
- find out how to complete a duty of care waste transfer note for each load of waste that leaves your premises
- check if your waste carrier is registered to dispose of waste
- not allow the waste carrier to dispose of your waste illegally - and report them to Crimestoppers if they do
